The 6,000sqft office space above Iceland in the centre of Leigh has been turned into a premium co-working space, something more usually found in Manchester city centre.

The recently completed phase one of the development features 4 private offices, meeting rooms, open-plan co-working space, electronics lab and all the usual facilities including a shower room.

Phase two, to be completed early next year will bring 8 more private offices, more open-plan workspace, meeting pods, breakout space, podcast, video and photography studios, a full workshop and dark room.

This would bring the total investment closer to £500,000.

The electronics lab and equipment

Leigh Works is already home to software and electronics companies, manufacturers, digital creatives and an ISP, to name just a few of its tenants. With a variety of innovative tech projects taking place working with partners and clients such as Epic Games, Cisco, GMCA, and Innovate UK.

Providing high-quality, flexible office space supports Leigh Works' primary goal as a social enterprise: to nurture talent and innovation in Leigh. Their mission is to inspire the next generation of creatives, engineers, and entrepreneurs, while creating more opportunities for the local community. To achieve this, they collaborate with Wigan & Leigh College, local high schools, primary schools, and STEM Ambassadors to offer work placements, arrange for professionals to deliver talks to students, and participate in careers days.

It’s taken a lot of hard work by some incredibly passionate and dedicated people...

“...but phase one has gone incredibly well. We thank all the local business heroes that have supported us on our journey by donating products and supplies as well as our funding providers, GMCVO. We look forward to completing phase two early next year.” Said Steven Tomlinson, co-founder of Leigh Works.

“We’re really excited about the projects and opportunities that we have seen already in the first few weeks. Some of the smart energy-saving technology developed in-house for this building has attracted a lot of interest and innovation funding could see a revolutionary new product released. Another company is working on a new way to precisely detect landmines with millimetre precision in the field. There’s a lot going on!”
